How safe is carpooling?
In order to continue to provide a safe and reliable Scoop experience for the Lab community in light of COVID-19, Scoop has evolved the carpool experience and moved carpooler health to the forefront. As part of this effort, new health and safety guidelines have been implemented to keep the Lab community safe when commuting. These guidelines include:
All carpoolers must be symptom-free.
Face coverings are required on drivers and riders.
One rider (back seat), one driver carpools only – no two-seater or two-door vehicles are permitted.
No physical contact.
Increased airflow by opening car windows encouraged.
Drivers must disinfect all common surfaces between carpools.
For more information, please visit Scoop’s Coronavirus Health and Safety Guidelines . Please note that these guidelines are subject to change to adhere to updated public health recommendations. Carpoolers should check back regularly to confirm they’re following the most up-to-date information.
Scoop is a carpooling app that automatically matches co-workers and neighbors in a shared commute.
Our partnership with Scoop helps Berkeley Lab staff:

Carpooling with Scoop means Berkeley Lab Riders and Drivers share commuting costs, and all transactions occur directly in the app. Riders enjoy the convenience of a door-to-door commute, and Drivers get a reimbursement to offset the cost of their commute.
Whether Driving or Riding, staff will have the opportunity to meet co-workers and make the most of their time, all while saving money.
