The Lab’s parking permits, which have not been required to be displayed for the past two years, will again be required beginning April 15. If you are eligible for parking and working on site returning soon, have never received or lost your permit, then you can make an appointment to obtain a permit.
Parking requirements will be enforced beginning April 15. However, reminders to obtain and display your permits will be issued in the form of warnings beginning April 15.
Beginning April 15:
- Parking permits will need to be displayed at the gate
- Parking permits need to be visible in your vehicle when you park
- If you have an existing parking permit you do not need a new permit
- Annual stickers are no longer required. If your permit has old stickers it is still valid. You do not need a new permit.
If you cannot find your parking permit, the permit is broken or faded beyond legibility, or you have never received a permit but are eligible for one, make an appointment through the Lab’s badge appointment calendar system.
- Parking is available only to eligible employees and rehired retirees. Off-hour parking, which is after 3 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, is available to graduate students, student employees, and interns. Affiliates and subcontractors are not eligible for a parking permit.
- You must have a parking permit if you park on site Monday through Friday up until 3 p.m. You do not need a permit if you park on weekends or after 3 p.m.
- If you do not have a current Lab ID badge you can also obtain one during your appointment.
- Park only in spaces that correspond to your parking permit; orange circle, blue triangle, or general which are unmarked. Be aware there are designated spaces for carpools, government vehicles, GEM vehicles, stack parking, and disabled parking.
- Parking permits are assigned as follows:
- General for career, term, and limited-term employees. This is general parking.
- Blue Triangle for senior scientists and staff members with a Blue Triangle parking permit. The parking space is marked with a blue triangle
- Orange Circle for senior leaders with an Orange Circle parking permit. The parking space is marked with an orange circle.
- Parking permits are assigned as follows:
- For alternate commute options, see commute.lbl.gov

- Lab badge if you have one
- Valid driver’s license
- Old placard if you are updating your placard color
- Vehicle information including make, model, year, color, and license plate number
