After input from throughout the Lab population, the Lab is changing its parking policy to moderately expand permit eligibility and eliminate blue triangle parking permits. Upon implementation in the fall, blue triangle spaces will be open to those with a blue or yellow (general) parking permit.
To support this change, new parking permits will be distributed in the next two months. Additional communications about obtaining a new permit will be shared in August. Until the implementation date is announced, please continue parking in spaces corresponding to your existing permit.
“The working group spent many hours reviewing the survey results and listening to people in focus groups to design a policy that embeds the Lab’s IDEA principles and stewardship,” said Parking Demand and Transportation Manager John Chernowski. “The new policy gives us the flexibility to support how we work now and in the future. We hope it will help us all think differently about parking and transportation at the Lab.”
Lab parking remains free of charge.
In addition to eliminating blue triangle permits, the revised policy allows for a limited number of permits for use by affiliates and student employees. It also includes piloting reservable time-limited spaces and a program administered by Health Services to replace medical blue triangle permits. A few more orange circle permits will be distributed to provide Lab areas greater flexibility. You can read more about the work on these changes in a parking policy white paper.
